My first time happened not long after I started in Toastmasters. I had just finished my C& L manual, and was giving my first speech from the advanced manuals. I had not put the same amount of practice into my speech as I had been doing in my previous speeches. While I was giving my speech I was thinking to myself, I have not put the same effort into this speech as I have done with my other speeches AND IT SHOWS !!!
My evaluator (at that time, i think) was a DTM about 3 times over. The first thing he said to me was “That’s the best speech I have ever heard you give Trevor.”
That statement from my then evaluator, taught me that whatever you are thinking about the speech you are delivering, is not necessarily coming through to your audience.
