I was about to present to a group of Toastmasters in Ohio. We were meeting in a church and I got there just in time and set up. One problem, my computer wasn’t working. It would not even turn on. Yikes! I can do the presentation without it, but the video clips and visuals would make this so much better. I was trying to remain calm and deal with my anxiety.
Right then my friend Maureen, who was a believer, was there trying to help. She put her hands on the computer and said a sincere prayer. I thought that it couldn’t hurt. Then I hit the power button again and the amazing Apple
startup sound resonated through the room and my heart. Wow! Does she have a hotline to God?
Recently, I was about to watch a show on Netflix with my friend, Tony. Not sure if you had problems getting on Netflix during this craziness, by I have. I told him the Maureen computer story and decided to give it a try. After a prayer and a couple of reboots, it worked!
Last week it happened again. I prayed again. What was fascinating this time is the reboot didn’t work. Then, I clicked a few other buttons on the TV and it told me I wasn’t connected to the Wi-Fi. What? I used it the day before. I never touched anything since shutting it off last night. Well, I reconnected it and boom! There it was, Netflix was working again! You could dismiss this, I don’t.
Yes, it’s technology, but I believe there is more to it. It’s cool that it did not just reboot. It reminds me of the fact that Jesus healed people of the same affliction in different ways. One time spitting in the mud and one time placing his hands on their eyes, and another yet a different way. I believe that he wanted us to see it was him, not the method.
I get that turning on Netflix is not the same as healing someone who is blind. The prayer still worked. Even if your challenge may seem small, please still consider praying. If you ask Maureen or me, we would. You?
(Reminder, this is just a journal of my mistakes, experiences, and thoughts along with my journey to having a closer relationship to God. I do not claim to be an authority on the subject. If you want to know The Way, read The Bible.)
What church do I attend? Verve Church in Las Vegas
