OK, I have to brag about my mentor Vinnie. The comedian that gave me the advice that I pass along to speakers around the world: “stage time.”
Ever notice how some talented people never “make it.” And some people who do, you seriously wonder how? Sometimes the most talented and deserving do “make the grade.”
One of the most talented people who has ever graced a stage has finally “made it.” I couldn’t be happier. Vinnie Favorito, Vegas headliner, spent 2 years at Binions (old downtown Vegas) and 3 years at O’Shea’s to prove his oneman show would work. He had the most repeat business of any of the shows on the strip. What really impressed me was how, each step of the way he was appreciative of where he was at. Each audience felt like he was playing the big room at Ceasars.
He has the most unique show in Vegas. He comes out on stage, does about 10 minutes of material, then works the room for over an hour. Most comedian’s would never have the guts to do that. It is one thing to “work the crowd” for a few minutes, it is completely another to make the the “trade mark” to the show. No two shows are exactly the same.
Well, Vinnie has played his last show at O’Sheas. It was this past Tuesday. I got the privilege of being there. I’m delighted I was in town. He finally, got the call he has been waiting years for. He is opening at the Flamingo on Friday night! (8/8/08). Which if you were in Asia, could not be any luckier (8 is the lucky number there). If you are in town, please go check it out. I wish I was going to be there. Fortunately, and unfortunately I will be in Calgary for our Get Paid to Speak Boot Camp.
Sometimes people who deserve their big shot, do get it!
Keep believing in your dream!
CONGRATS Vinnie!
PS The cool part for me? This means the Humor Boot Camp® will now be held at the Flamingo as well. Boot Campers will be able to brag about playing on the stage at the Flamingo! (I know I will too!)
PPS Here is some video footage from his last night at O’Sheas!
