Living and Laughing with Cancer – A Comedian’s Journey
Grades 10 + After having been diagnosed with bladder cancer, comedian Dave Fitzgerald explains how he used humor to help him come to terms with his illness. The program uses an informal question/answer format between Dave and his friend Darren, clips of comic routines, and photographs of his medical experience to illustrate the process.
Dave is straightforward, and not afraid to talk about the unpleasant or unattractive terms associated with cancer. His warm manner will evoke empathy from others dealing with the same problem. He does not tout one specific remedy, but reminds victims that they will be faced with a series of decisions.
He advises those diagnosed with cancer to get involved in their own recovery, find their “magic mud” to ease the stress, and “feel the breeze” to appreciate life’s small wonders. The video will be useful for anyone diagnosed with cancer or for family members.
