Ages 16-adult. Comedian Dave Fitzgerald believes that laughter is the best medicine, and that’s the tonic he brings to fellow cancer patients. His close friend and filmmaker, Darren LaCroix, interviews the raspy-voiced comic and includes humorous, self-deprecating snippets from Dave’s stand-up act. His jokes include how surgery for bladder cancer re-routed his colon, switching its function from “food service to waste management.”
In spite of a rather sappy musical montage at the close, this program offers helpful advice on dealing with a cancer diagnosis, sorting through treatment options, and making an effort to get well. Patients and their families may find solace in the levity and lessons from one who’s been there.
