If you are a believer, how do you prepare to give a presentation? Are you confident? Are you completely confident? Do you pray beforehand? I hope so. There was a time in my career when I did not. I thought it was me. I thought it was my vast experience. Sometimes I did OK. In retrospect, it’s clear to see it could have been better. I could have gone deeper. I did not truly honor my privilege of the platform.
Eventually, as I grew closer to God, I finally got it. Just because I could doesn’t mean I should. Just before Mark Brown and I start recording our podcast, we pray. We ask for help. Do you?
This week I listened to a podcast with two of my favorites, Steven Furtick, the Pastor of Elevation Church, and Dave Ramsey. If you haven’t heard of Dave Ramsey, he’s one of the funniest presenters I’ve ever heard, especially when talking about money. I love and follow his teachings. I have even facilitated his program Financial Peace at my church. I highly recommend it if you have not been through it, especially with a spouse or partner.
On the podcast recorded at Elevation Church, Dave started by praying, “God, you know I can do these talks by myself, but they sure are better when you do them. Holy Spirit, this is your time. In Jesus’ name, Amen” I love when I see amazing presenters give it to God and ask The Holy Spirit for help.
If you are a believer, go all in. Ask for help every time. If you already do, excellent. Can you go deeper? Be careful with the thought, “I’ve got this!” Don’t let your ego get in the way as I did. Think, “We’ve got this!”

(Reminder, this is just a journal of my mistakes, experiences, and thoughts, along with my journey to having a closer relationship with God. I do not claim to be an authority on the subject. If you want to know The Way, read The Bible.)
