If you’ve heard me speak before, you know I’m a fan of being careful about who influences you. When you listen to your favorite music over and over again, it gets into your subconscious and affects your habits, actions, and mood.
Every morning after I do my daily reading, I listen to a “start my day” playlist. Do you? If so, when was the last time you updated your play list? A few years ago most of my music was high energy pop music. Now it is filled with songs of worship.
Here is my new list:
• “Fix My Eyes” by For King & Country
• “I Am” by Crowder
• “The Motions” by Matthew West
• “The Proof of Your Love” by For King & Country
• “Live Like That” by Sidewalk Profits
• “Your Love Never Fails” by Jesus Culture
• “Beautiful Things” by Gungor
I shared my list with my friend, Vickie, and she now plays these songs for her kids as they drive to school. It was cool to hear that they now know the words and are singing these songs and asking questions about the lyrics. Good influence flushes out bad influence. What fills you up? Please post to share your favorites.
Thank you, God, for truth, love, laughter, and music!
Darren

"Multiplied" by NEEDTOBREATHE
"All the People Said Amen" by Matt Maher

I also like to listen to the live-stream from one of the Christian radio stations. K-LOVE broadcasts on the 'regular' radio in most cities, but you can listen online at http://www.klove.com/listen/player.aspx
Great post, Darren — I agree with you wholeheartedly!

Soul on Fire is my Favorite song right now also!
I like the new stuff but I’m afraid I have an affinity to older worship songs. I get goosebumps every time I hear Elvis sing How Great Thou Art or Peace in the valley. I love all Elvis gospel songs. I am so appreciative of you, Darren, talking openly about your faith. In this area many people of faith feel they are swimming against the tide and remain silent for fear of ridicule or offending someone. I thank God you are not like that and you inspire others to be the same way. I’m reading now “I’m Still Standing” a book you had referred to either on You tube or one other posting. Thank you for suggesting it. What a testimony to faith. Often when I read books I give them away when I’m finished. This book is guaranteed a keeper.
Thanks for the reminder to go back to my roots of listening to Christ centered music first thing in the morning. When my kids were in high school I would play Christian rock while they were eating breakfast so the last thing they heard before they went out the door would hopefully inspire them to keep their eyes on the Lord throughout the day.
One of those kids is now in Seminary and will be a Navy Chaplain when he completes his education (Praise God). The other is on a slower path toward finding her identity in Christ, but I trust God’s perfect timing (Praise God).
We are a family that thinks in song and sings and hums aloud all day. Listening to one of my all time favorites like The Motions, is food for my soul!
I appreciate the encouragement;great post Darren.
