Many people who are spiritual will say that Jesus was a real person, a great teacher, of great moral character and a great example of love. In learning through my own journey I often don’t know how to respond to people when they know I follow Jesus. I often go to my mentors and ask them, “How do I respond when people say ________?”
When I hear about people saying Jesus was just a person, I’m brought to wonder, but he said he was God. He makes it pretty clear if you do your homework. He does not leave it open to interpretation. So, if he said he was Lord, then He was either telling the truth, lying or clueless. It has been said many times he is either Lord, Liar or Lunatic.
Here is what former atheist, now believer and Oxford professor, C.S. Lewis says;
“I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Jesus that, ‘I’m ready to accept him as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept His claim to be God.’ This is the one thing we must not say. A man who is merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher, He would either be a lunatic, or else He would be the devil of hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was and is the Son of God, or else a madman, or something worse. You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him as a demon, or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.”
Do you get that? Jesus claimed to be God, the Savior of the world so He either was The Son of God, was out of his mind or if he knew he was not, but said he was Lord then he was an evil liar. Think about it.
