Went to see it this weekend, and loved it. It is such an interesting perspective to see the story through the eyes of a Roman soldier. I’m not a biblical scholar, so I’m not able to say what was Hollywood and what was directly from the Bible.
Personally, I really liked the way the story conveyed the attitude of “It doesn’t matter”; meaning, anything that happened in this world is not as important as eternity. It reminded my of the scriptures that talk about not worrying. A great reminder to me right now. I hope it is for you, too.
I liked the way they added humor to relate the story of Mary Magdalene’s past. I do not want to give it away, but it was well done and added some levity to the drama.
I also really connected with the small but important role of Bartholomew. They portrayed him as happy and so filled with the Holy Spirit that it inspired me. I want to live more like that, happy and grateful for God’s loving me despite my sin. It’s hard to put yourself in their sandals and wonder how it felt to meet Jesus.
What secular or Christian movies that you have seen have given you a good perspective about God? What did it mean to you? Please post.
Thank you, God, for Grace, Truth, Love, and Laughter,
Darren
P.S. Thank you, especially, for grace.

Hello Darren,
I read your God Blog with interest. No, I have not yet seen Risen, I hope that I do get to see it.
Yes, giving up everything has been a wonderful experience for me and it has “liberated” me and has prepared me for the Final Journey where I do not take anything at all.
May God grant you more Grace to continue your journey.
