What is most important to you?

If you were moving 1200 miles away and could carry very little with you, what would you take in your car? What is most valuable? I shipped most everything (since I had no furniture in Tulsa.
For me, it was my lap top, my back up hard drive (also shipped one incase my car exploded on the way) my masters video tapes for new DVD Series Craig and I are working on…and my master CDs for all of my educational tools.
It was quite calming knowing that, God forbid I lose everything, no one can take away what I have learned, and I could start over if I had to. You?

PS. I’m very excited about our first ever Story Telling Champ Camp in Vegas on Saturday!

Let me be the first to tell the world that your Story Telling champ Camp was AWESOME!!
The most important thing my wife and brought with us from South Africa to the USA was our photo albums. In 2001, our Kodak moments were irreplaceble.
Now, the most important thing that we will take with us if we have to move long-distance again, will be my notes from CHAMP CAMPS. Way to go Darren!!!
Darren, I know exactly what you mean. From all my military moves growing up an Army Brat, you learned to separate your belongings into three sets of stuff: first, was what they call “hold baggage” – the smaller shipment that went 30 days before you did, so it was waiting when you arrived (if they didn’t screw it up); second, all the rest of your “household goods”, which could take as long as 45-60 days to arrive, depending on where you were PCS’ing to & from; and thirdly, whatever you could fit into two suitcases per person.
The stuff in those two suitcases was your “most important stuff”. If nothing else made it … if they lost it, or it got burned or buried or damaged or whatever, those two suitcases would be all you had left of your previous life … so the most important stuff is what you put in there.
So I totally and entirely know what you mean. For me, it was always my address book, with contact information for all the friends I was leaving behind. Of course, now, it would be my laptop. EVERYTHING is on my laptop!
Glad to know you made it safely to Las Vegas. I can’t wait to see you in January … it looks like our long weekend before the Lennox Sales Meeting is starting to come together!
OK – I’m going to POST because I am wondering…like the rest of us…WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO POST AGAIN?? COMM’ON the world is waiting to hear what you are up to NOW??
How is LAS VEGAS treating you!! TELL US…we’re waiting….break us off!
Hey Angie (my new MENTOR!!)- great to see you posting on Darren’s BLOG.
So here is my tidbit about MOVING!! Like Angie, I too MOVED around my ENTIRE life…not military related…family issues…(another BLOG, another story).
I lived out of bags and boxes and suitcases throughout my life… UNTIL I had my daughter Sabrina – life is stable now!!
I lost many, many things throughout my constant moves…which may be why I try to HOLD on to things now…
I enjoyed hearing Dr. Barbara De Angelis at the Toastmasters International Convention in PHX (AUG 07). She was the recipient of the Toastmasters 2007 “GOLDEN GAVEL AWARD”.
Barbara was JUICY !! It hit me and I teared when Barabra said we are all given BUNDLES that we should give away… as someone who likes to HOLD on to things.. I think the secret may just be to LET THEM GO!! Thanks Barbara!!!

BUT if I could only take a few things with me – they would be Sabrina’s pix, dance videos and other precious items of hers…
